About Hunchmeter
Who we are
Hunchmeter keeps a public record of the picks sports experts publish and grades every one against the final score.
Hunchmeter is an independent project, not tied to any outlet, league, team or sportsbook. We started with the NFL in October 2026.
Why we do it
Every week, TV and newspaper experts publish picks for every NFL game. Some outlets show a running record for their own panel; many don't. We put them side by side under one set of rules: the same final scores for everyone, and every pick traceable to the page it came from.
How the work is split
- Recording. Our software reads each outlet's public picks page several times a day, saves a copy of the page with a fingerprint, and notes the time we saw each pick.
- Grading. Picks are graded against the final score from ESPN's public scoreboard by the rules on the methodology page. The same rules apply to every expert.
- Checking. Where an outlet prints its own records or marks, we compare them with our count. Every difference is explained on that outlet's page.
- Corrections. A confirmed error is fixed in the data, every page is rebuilt, and the fix is listed on the corrections page.
Our rules
- We record only picks an outlet has published on a public page. We never make picks of our own.
- We don't take money from sportsbooks, experts or outlets, and we don't use affiliate links.
- A record is a count of picks, not a verdict on a person. We don't call anyone good or bad.
- The full rules are in our editorial standards.
